On Sunday, November 3, 2024, more than fifty thousand people from all over the world will participate in the New York City Marathon—an event that many New Yorkers deem their favorite day of the year, on account of the inimitable energy that it brings to all five boroughs. For the cover of the November 4, 2024, issue, Lorenzo Mattotti celebrates the race that is expected to have more than a million spectators: “I wanted to capture the collective spirit of all the runners, whose movements often blend into the natural environment.”
