People-watching can be a welcome distraction while trekking around the city on public transportation. For the cover of the March 25, 2024, Style Issue, his first for the magazine, Klaas Verplancke spoofs the way certain snazzy outfits can inspire fits of creativity in observers. “Body language and facial expressions are an essential part of my storytelling,” Verplancke said. “That’s why I like to observe people, their nonverbal communication. Instead of sketching them, I try to imagine their thoughts and emotions.”
