US Shows 'Undisguised' Economic Aggression Toward Russia - Moscow on Sanctions

Following a massive US strike on Syrian facilities on April 17, U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley said that the United States is preparing new sanctions against Russia because of Moscow’s support for the Syrian government, adding that measures will be announced on Monday.

Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov said Monday that Moscow is the policy of the U.S. to expand sanctions against Russia are “rampant,” adding that Russia would not postpone Its response to the new measures.

“I think the schedule for the consideration of this important bill will be created so that we won’t postpone it [the assertion] – the situation just dictates the need for a vigorous effort. We can’t tell now what will happen and when. But from a political point of view, as the Ministry of foreign Affairs, we see the need for this to be carried out quite rapidly,” – said Ryabkov.

The Deputy Minister added that Russia is discussing with partners in BRICS in the G20 and problems in the functioning of global markets against the backdrop of “the unbridled expansion of American sanctions in all directions”.

“Of course, the issue with the United States abused the status [in] the dollar described as the main world reserve currency. But I don’t think it would be right now to go into details, because such details can be used against the United States on the background of naked economic aggression against Russia. That is why I confirm what I said before — Yes, we do,” said Ryabkov, answering the question, Moscow is discussing with the BRICS and G-20 partners in reducing dependence on the dollar.

Last week, leaders of factions in the State Duma, the lower house of Parliament together with the speaker Vyacheslav Volodin bill was introduced about the possibility of retaliatory measures to U.S. sanctions and anti-Russian policy.

The document envisages a ban on imports of us agricultural, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and medicines. This also implies the suspension of cooperation between Russia and the United States in the field of nuclear energy, aircraft manufacturing and deliveries of rocket engines.

The announcement of new measures against Russia came after earlier this month, the U.S. Treasury Department added another 38 Russian entrepreneurs, high-ranking officials and companies to the sanctions list in connection with the alleged Russian “malicious acts” around the world. Russian entrepreneurs designated by Treasury include Viktor Vekselberg, Oleg Deripaska, Alexei Miller, Kerimov S. A., Shamalov Kirill and Andrey Kostin.
