Ryanair has welcomed a Maltese court's decision to find a passenger guilty of causing a disturbance on a flight from Cologne to Malta on March 22 by smoking on board and ignoring crew instructions.
The passenger admitted his guilt in court and was fined 2,000 euros.
Ryanair has reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and respectful environment for all passengers and crew, eliminating unnecessary disruption caused by a small number of unruly passengers.
The airline has a strict zero tolerance policy for passenger misconduct and will continue to take action against unruly behaviour on board for the benefit of the vast majority of passengers who do not cause problems during flights.
A Ryanair spokesman said: “It is unacceptable that passengers, many of whom are travelling with children, should have to endure unnecessary inconvenience because of the behaviour of one unruly individual.
“Ryanair supports the decision of the Maltese Court to impose a fine of €2,000 on the unruly passenger who disrupted flight FR5205 from Cologne to Malta on Saturday 22 March.
“This underlines our commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for both crew and passengers on all Ryanair flights.
“Ryanair has a strict zero-tolerance policy on passenger misconduct and will continue to take action, including travel bans, supporting local law enforcement investigations and pursuing civil damages claims, to combat misconduct on board our flights.”
