Russia Demands Compensation From US For Imposing Steel Tariffs - Reports

Russia, which is one of the largest exporters of steel and aluminium in the USA, fell below us import tariffs, along with other major producers like China and India.

Russia appealed to the world trade organization (WTO) to demand compensation from the US tariffs on steel and aluminium, introduced last month in the country, Reuters reported on Thursday.

“Russia applied to the WTO for consultations on the tariffs imposed by the United States,” Gennady Ovechko permanent representative of Russia to the WTO, said.

China, India and the European Union have appealed to the WTO with the same demand.

In March, Donald trump has chosen to trade offensive, the introduction of a 25 percent duty on steel and 10% tariff on imported aluminum. These fares are valid for all countries, exporting its products to USA, EU, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and South Korea won in the vote until may 1.

After the announcement of the new tariffs, the Deputy Minister of industry and trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov told sputnik that Russia intends to negotiate with US about exemption from tariffs on imported steel and aluminum in the framework of measures in response to Washington’s decision.

Russia is among the five largest exporters of steel and aluminium in the United States. However, according to analysts, in the country mining and metallurgical companies relatively little harm from any sort of duties on steel and aluminium imports imposed by the United States
