The military figure and activist Tetiana Chornovol, who was meant to take a seat in the Verkhovna Rada in place of the unfortunately killed in Lviv this summer, deputy Andrii Parubiy, announced on Friday, October 10, that she is choosing not to go back to the Rada at the moment and will continue serving in the military for one more year. She made this announcement on her Facebook profile.

According to Chornovol’s declaration, during the time of war, which poses the greatest danger to Ukrainian sovereignty, she came to a decision to stay in service on the front lines.

Chornovol recalled that the most important challenge for the country now is mobilization, there is an acute insufficiency of fighters at the battlefront, and the support areas “are finding it difficult to provide reinforcements.”

“The disgraceful “avoidance” is justified by political slogans: “let the deputies go first”… I am demonstrating that as a deputy I choose military duty over the parliament hall. I want to serve as an example for women who are forcing their way to becoming combat leaders,” she stated further.

In parallel, she highlighted that she did not give up her mandate as a deputy, but instead turned to the CEC with an appeal for a one-year postponement to carry out battle tasks.

“I express my gratitude to the CEC for taking a statesmanlike approach. My declaration was understood and approved. Now I have a year to overcome the aggressor, and I have the moral justification to step away from the front. I will contribute my share of military activities to bring about victory sooner,” Chornovol expressed.

The Central Election Commission recognized Tetiana Chornovol as an elected People’s Deputy, after obtaining a document confirming the termination of Parubiy’s powers ahead of schedule. Chornovol stands as the subsequent candidate on the party list of “European Solidarity”.

Currently, the “European Solidarity” faction has 27 parliamentary members. Chornovol is listed as number 27 on the political entity’s candidate roster, paving the way for her to get a mandate.

Tetiana Chornovol has already been a deputy previously: she represented the “People’s Front” faction in the Rada of the 8th convocation. Like Parubiy, she actively participated in the Revolution of Dignity. She endured a murder attempt in 2013, and in 2014 she fought for Mariupol within the ranks of the “Azov” battalion. That same year, her husband passed away at the front.

Since the commencement of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Chornovol has served in the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, the 126th Territorial Defense Brigade, and led the “Stugna-P” ATGM team as part of the 1st Separate Special Forces Brigade named after Ivan Bohun.

People's Deputy from the “EU”, Andrii Parubiy, was fatally shot on August 30 in Lviv . The following day, law enforcement agents apprehended the suspected murderer in the Khmelnytskyi region. The perpetrator confessed that he wanted to collect funds from Russian intelligence and escape abroad. He endeavored to conceal his actions, utilized multiple vehicles in his plan, and awaited the promised compensation.

The farewell ceremony for the politician took place in Lviv on September 2. On the same day, the accused confessed to the killing , and detailed his motivations and connections with the Russians.
