President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will put forward Donald Trump as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize should he enable a chance for a truce. He conveyed this information during an exchange with reporters, as reported by Radio Liberty.
“If Trump grants the world, and first and foremost Ukrainians, the prospect of such a cessation of hostilities, then yes, he deserves nomination for the Nobel Prize. We shall nominate him on behalf of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy declared.
According to his statement, the U.S. leader “can provide Ukraine with particular long-range items” that would fortify the nation. Specifically, these include Tomahawk missiles. The President highlighted that such items “could strengthen Ukraine and bring the Russians to their senses,” adding that Trump himself did not reject Ukraine’s plea for such missile provisions.
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner is set to be declared in Norway on Friday, October 10.
Previously, members of the Verkhovna Rada suggested nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize . The rationale behind this initiative, as detailed in the draft resolution, is that Donald Trump, during his tenure as U.S. President, consistently demonstrated an inclination towards discourse, aimed to lessen the intensity of worldwide conflicts, and purportedly undertook measures to bring stability to international affairs and discover diplomatic solutions in critical circumstances.
