Prices are falling, but the year is still expensive: how inflation is changing in Ukraine

July was the first month in 2025 to record a decline in prices and deflation in Ukraine, albeit by only 0.2%. As it turned out, this trend continued in August, when prices in the country also fell by an average of 0.2%.

This was reported by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, according to which consumer prices in Ukraine, compared to July, fell by 0.2%. But at the same time, if you look at inflation over the year, it increased by approximately 13.2%, but even here the State Statistics Service sees a positive, because in July this indicator was 14.1%.

The most notable price declines were observed for vegetables (-12.7%), fruits (-10.2%), clothing, footwear (-3.2%), and sugar (-1%). At the same time, price increases were observed for communication services (+2.7%), eggs (+2.3%), meat and meat products (+2%), fish and seafood (+1.4%), non-alcoholic beverages (+1.4%), and milk (+1%).

“Inflation in Ukraine has been -0.2% for the second month. Mainly due to fruits and vegetables, which have become cheaper by 10−12%. This, by the way, is noticeable in that apples, potatoes and not only have finally started to become cheaper. Annual inflation is still high -13.2%, but in my forecast for the end of 2025, I reduced the annual inflation in 2025 to 10.3%,” economic expert Danylo Monin commented on the State Statistics Service data.
