Zelensky compared drones in Poland to the seizure of Crimea

Зеленський порівняв атаку дронів на Польщу із вторгненням «зелених чоловічків» у Крим

An analysis of the flight trajectories of Russian drones in Poland on the night of September 10 indicates a well-thought-out and non-random nature of their border crossing, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a briefing with Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Kyiv on September 11.

According to Suspilne, Zelensky suggested that Moscow was trying to test the reaction of its partners.

“To me, this attack is similar to Crimea. Only instead of “little green men” there are drones. I think it looks like a rehearsal. There are already reports in the media about certain parts of Poland that Russia claims,” the president said.

Zelensky noted that Ukraine has already offered its European neighbors a joint program for financing and producing interceptor drones, and confirmed that Poland has agreed to communication between the military.

“Donald Tusk said he would send his military. Syrsky will communicate with the Polish commander. Then it's technical issues,” he noted.

At the same time, Zelensky added that Patriot air defense systems are not suitable for fighting “shaheeds”.

“Patriot will not help in the fight against suicide bombers, they will not help anyone. This is a weapon against ballistic missiles. When 500-800 suicide bombers are killed in our country per day, it is clear that Patriot is not against drones. A missile costs 2-3 million dollars, while a drone costs up to 100 thousand. This is not the way,” Zelensky said and recalled that the US produces 50-60 missiles for this type of air defense per month.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that a total of about 19 drones had been detected, and for the first time some of them had flown from Belarus. At least one residential building was damaged in the attack . After the incident, the Polish Foreign Ministry summoned the charge d'affaires for Russia, Andrzej Ordas .

An accelerated call-up of territorial defense reservists was also announced in the provinces of Poland . After Poland submitted an official request, NATO activated Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which provides for consultations of allies in the event of a threat to the security of any member state. At the same time, as Reuters writes, NATO does not consider the incursion of Russian drones into Poland as an attack.

According to media reports, in the Masovian Voivodeship, a Russian drone fell on the territory of a military unit of the Territorial Defense Forces several dozen kilometers from Warsaw.

Meanwhile, former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis warned that the Russian drone attack on Poland could become an argument for individual states to limit aid to Ukraine .
