In his evening address, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky summed up the week, which, according to him, has been extremely productive for our country. In recent days alone, Ukraine has received support from Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The coalition of partners currently includes 35 states, 26 of which have already provided security guarantees. They cover the areas of defense on land, in the air, at sea, in cyberspace, and include funding for the Ukrainian army.
The Head of State emphasized that the main priority is a strong army capable of guaranteeing Ukraine's independence and sovereignty. To this end, the partners agreed on the supply of weapons, long-term financing, and other key elements of cooperation.
Zelensky also reported on important steps in the field of joint production of weapons. In particular, for the first time in history, Ukraine has begun construction of a factory with Denmark, where components for drones and missiles will be manufactured. He emphasized that almost 60% of the weapons used by the Ukrainian military are already produced domestically.
The president paid special attention to the need to expand the production of air defense systems. Ukraine has proven that it is capable of creating modern and effective weapons, and thanks to this, it is gradually becoming one of the leaders in the defense industry.
The next week, according to the head of state, will also be busy. Ukraine is preparing for another meeting in the Ramstein format and is working to increase funding within the framework of the American PURL program, thanks to which more than $2 billion in weapons have already been purchased.
Among the main tasks is to strengthen air defense against Russian missiles and kamikaze drones. The President recalled that over the past day, the Russian Federation has attacked Zaporizhia, Kherson and other Ukrainian cities. “Every day we face new challenges, and every day we add strength to Ukraine. I thank everyone who protects our state and helps it survive,” he concluded.
As previously reported, the coalition of the willing meeting on September 4 produced many bold statements, including an agreement in principle on what French President Emmanuel Macron called “the forces of calm in Ukraine.” However, this confidence is deceptive, as British journalist and historian Owen Matthews of The Telegraph analyzes.
