The BEV market is growing rapidly in Ukraine / Depositphotos
According to the results of August 2025, the total volume of the electric vehicle segment (including cars, trucks and buses) amounted to a record 11.5 thousand units, which is 12.5% more than in July of this year and 22.5% more than last year's figures for August 2024.
This is reported by Delo.ua, citing data from the Institute for Automotive Market Research (IDA).
Why is the demand for electric vehicles growing?
Analysts note that 11,545 electric vehicles in total is a historical record volume for the Ukrainian market, and there are three main drivers here:
- increase in fuel prices at gas stations;
- the general trend of increasing interest in electric vehicles;
- the approaching VAT clearance, which is scheduled for January 1, 2026.
Experts emphasize that the latter factor is probably the most actively encouraging motorists to switch to electric cars, because in just a few months they will become more expensive by almost a third.
According to car market analysts, the growth in volumes in this segment will continue, precisely because of the approaching VAT refund for customs clearance of electric cars. Experts predict that from next year we should expect some pause, a slump lasting several months, after which a certain stabilization will occur, which will be replaced by a trend towards increasing volumes.
Market structure
According to IDA, the market is based on imported electric cars with mileage, the proportion of such 52.1%, or 6018 pcs.
The second largest subsegment is internal resales BEV group cars, share 30.8%, quantity — 3561 pcs.
New electric cars occupied 17% in its group, and in quantitative terms it is 1966 units, and which once again raises the bar for this subsegment, because this is a new record for first-time registered new electric vehicles.
Here is how the indicators for these subsegments have changed compared to previous periods:
- Domestic resales: +12.5% month-on-month, +31.1% year-on-year;
- Imports of used cars: +10.0% m/m, +9.5% y/y;
- Imports of new: +21.2% m/m, +62.6% y/y.
Electric vehicle market
In July, the Ukrainian car fleet was replenished with more than 7 thousand electric vehicles (BEV).
The largest regional markets for the sale of electric vehicles in Ukraine there were the city of Kyiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa and Lviv regions.
