Arsenal are looking to thwart London neighbours and rivals Tottenham's bid for Eberechi Eze as they await further information on Kai Havertz's knee injury.
The day before, Spurs were preparing to formalise the forward's transfer, and negotiations regarding the 27-year-old footballer were moving forward.
However, according to PA, the Guns are now exploring the possibility of a move, with the England international reportedly keen to join Mikel Arteta's scheme.
Interest from the Londoners has increased following Havertz's injury, but sources insist it is too early to make predictions about the German international's fitness.
Havertz came off the bench in the second half of Sunday's win over Manchester United and finished the game but was absent from Arsenal's public training session at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
Eze, whose £68m release clause expired on Friday, played 84 minutes of the away win over Chelsea and trained on Wednesday ahead of the Eagles' home Conference League play-off game against Fredrikstad. Manager Oliver Glasner has stressed that both he and Liverpool-linked captain Marc Guehi will start the European fixture.
“Before the Chelsea game, I think a lot of you were surprised by the inclusion of Mark and Abs in the starting line-up and the fact that they played almost the whole game,” he said.
“Most will probably be surprised that they'll start again given all the talk. But again, they're determined to play.”
Eze left Arsenal's academy as a teenager, aged 13.
