Neither a sock nor an account. This is where Poles transfer their savings.

Nearly half of Poles (49%) have moved their savings to another bank when they found more favorable terms, according to Santander Consumer Bank's report, “Poles' Own Wallets: Savvy Like a Pole.” Twenty-one percent do so regularly, while 28% do so rarely.

Data shows that 44% of respondents regularly browse banking products related to savings. These are most common among those over 60 (51%) and those in their 40s (50%), while those aged 18-29 (37%) are least likely. Location also influences the frequency of searching for the best deals – residents of both the largest metropolitan areas (49%) and small towns (47%) are active.

According to the report, 42% of respondents remain loyal to a single bank or product. Women predominate in this group – 49% of them do not transfer their savings, compared to 34% of men. A similar attitude is shared by half of respondents aged 18–29. The opposite is true for the oldest respondents – 28% of those over 60 say they regularly change banks or savings products.

“Accumulating funds for the future or larger short-term expenses requires a proper plan. (…) The growing number of people monitoring savings offers available on the market may indicate an increase in Poles' financial awareness. This is also reflected in decisions to invest capital where the potential for profit is greatest, ” said Magdalena Drążkowska, Senior Product Manager at Santander Consumer Bank, quoted in the report.

The survey also showed that most Poles do not seek professional help with saving – 79% of respondents have never sought advice from a financial advisor, and only 16% have done so at least once. Men (18%) were more likely than women (15%) to use such support, as were people in their 40s (24%) and residents of cities with populations between 50,000 and 250,000 (21%).

The survey was commissioned by Santander Consumer Bank using standardized computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) conducted by the Institute for Market and Social Research (IBRiS) between April 18 and 29, 2025. A representative sample of adult Poles participated in the survey. Sample size: n = 1,000. (PAP)
