Luke Littler overcame 'shaky start' to win New Zealand Darts Masters title

Luke Littler produced a superb performance to beat Luke Humphries to win the New Zealand Darts title.

The 18-year-old repeated his success in Australia last weekend, averaging over 115 in an 8-4 final win over defending champion Humphreys in Auckland.

“The feelings were about the same as last week,” the teenager shared on pdc.tv.

“My start in the first game was shaky, but when it comes to the final you know you have to pull yourself together and that's what I did tonight.

“I felt invincible. The crowd was amazing and the venue was incredible – it felt like a Premier League game – and I'm delighted to have won another title.”

“I'm playing at a high level now, I'm enjoying my darts game and I hope I can continue this winning streak.”

Littler had previously beaten Mike De Decker 6-2 and Gerwyn Price 7-2, while Humphries reached the final by beating Damon Heta 6-2 and then defeated Chris Dobey 7-4.

Littler always had the upper hand against Humphries, opening a 3-0 lead early on and then extending his lead to 6-2.

Humphries cut the deficit to two legs, but Littler finished in style with 11 consecutive shots.

“I played pretty well today but when you average 115 there's not much you can do,” Humphreys said.

“I think if I had won that sixth leg it would have given me a chance to win, but the better player definitely won.

“When Luke is on the pitch he seems invincible. I tried and gave it my all, but in the end he was just too good.”
