Arne Slot sees 'no evil intentions' in Palace fans' noise during Diogo Jota's farewell ceremony

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has downplayed the fact that Crystal Palace fans interrupted the minute's silence for Diogo Jota ahead of the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.

Tributes were paid to former Reds striker Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car crash along with his brother Andre Silva last month, with wreaths laid on the pitch and a silence observed before kick-off.

Several Eagles fans broke the silence, causing a lot of commotion from the other end of the field and other Eagles fans who tried to silence those who didn't give their due.

“I don't think it was intentional or that it was the intention of the fan who was making the noise. Maybe he didn't realize it was a moment of silence,” Slott said.

He was just in a good mood and trying to support his team. And I think the Palace fans were trying to calm this guy down or whoever was making the noise, so I don't think there was any ill intent, this guy or the people making the noise.

“They tried to calm him down, but it was too loud. And then our fans responded: 'Hey, what's going on?'

“So I don’t think there was any malice because the Crystal Palace fans and the fans around the world paid a huge amount of respect to Diogo and Andre and I think it was unfortunate or, I can’t find the right words, but I don’t believe there was any malice.

“We'll see on Friday when Bournemouth come to our stadium how respectful it will be.
