LET Tour: Laura Funfstück wins her first title at PIF London

Laura Fünfstück won her first Ladies European Tour title with victory at the PIF London Championships. It was a triumphant victory for the German, who won at her first attempt as she showed courage to cross the finish line.

Laura Funfstuck showed courage in the final round of the PIF London Championship to win by one stroke at the Centurion Club.

On a sunny day in Hertfordshire, the final day proved tense, with 10 players finishing within three strokes of Fünfstück.

The German star had a three-shot lead the night before but had a tough start to the morning, trailing by three after four holes.

However, she quickly recovered and produced an impressive performance, making a birdie from one foot away to secure the title at 10 under par.

“I said at the start of the day that I wanted to do this today, and I did it on the back nine,” Funfstück said. “I was so nervous that I ate half a sausage for breakfast. Now I’m hungry. I’m so happy, so fulfilled. It was amazing.”

I hope this is just the beginning. It's very important because everyone decides for themselves whether they are a Tour winner or not. There are parts of me that I really value and can compete in some ways, but I wouldn't go into tournaments just betting on winning.

“I know I can be competitive enough to fight, so now that I've crossed that line, having been close to it before, I'm confident I can do it and hopefully I can do more in the future.”

After a rocky start, the 30-year-old golfer, who lives in London with her wife and fellow LET member Rosie Davies, bounced back with a birdie in the seventh inning and then added another in the ninth.

The German then stepped up her game over the final nine holes, making birdies on the 12th and 14th holes to get back into the game before finishing the match elegantly with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to end her final round with a score of 72 (-1).
