The District Prosecutor's Office in Opole has filed an indictment against 34-year-old Dawid N., who investigators believe joined a transport company to defraud customers. According to the indictment, the dishonest courier misappropriated equipment worth over PLN 200,000.
The events described in the indictment occurred in early 2025. A 34-year-old resident of Kluczbork reported to a courier company. He worked for only a few days and then unexpectedly quit.
Investigators determined that Dawid N., using false documents, hired himself as a courier to carry out his criminal scheme. Over the course of five days, he ordered goods worth a total of PLN 700,000 from an electronics retailer, primarily expensive smartphones. Each order was cash-on-delivery, with delivery to the area served by Dawid N.
He opened packages whose contents he knew and, instead of expensive electronics, placed bags of rice or groats inside. He then returned the packages to the sender as unclaimed. He then sold the smartphones removed from the packages through online portals. According to the prosecutor's office, he misappropriated equipment worth over 200,000 złoty.
During a search of the accused's apartment, police found some electronic equipment removed from the packages and money from the sale of the stolen goods. During the investigation, the accused confessed to the crime.
Dawid N. was charged with using forged documents and committing fraud. He has a previous conviction for a similar offense, so he will be charged with operating under conditions of recidivism. He faces up to 15 years in prison. (PAP)
