Liverpool make bid for Bayer Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz

Liverpool's bid to sign Florian Wirtz has advanced significantly after the club made contact with Bayer Leverkusen, according to PA news agency.

The team have long shown interest in the 22-year-old playmaker and his expected departure from the deposed Bundesliga champions is expected to spark competition for his signature.

Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in the German key player, however, the Premier League club have reportedly reduced their interest due to the rising cost of the deal, while Bayer are unwilling to sell the player to one of their domestic rivals.

Liverpool now appear to be favourites in the race to sign the €150m (£125m) forward after opening talks with the German club.

This has certainly been made possible by the club having already made contact with Bayer over Jeremie Frimpong, activating a €35m (£30m) release clause for the right-winger and undergoing a medical this week.
