Arsenal's Champions League dream ends after semi-final defeat to PSG

Arsenal's bid to win the Champions League title ended in defeat for the first time after a 2-1 second-leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.

Under Mikel Arteta, the team had already trailed by a goal in the semi-final and, despite a strong start, were two points down in the match when Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring for PSG in the 27th minute.

Vitinha was unable to convert a penalty – after Miles Lewis-Skelly was booked for handball following a controversial VAR review – and then Achraf Hakimi scored the final goal in the 72nd minute.

Bukayo Saka reduced the deficit for Arsenal four minutes later, but his shot then hit the crossbar for PSG, despite having a chance to reduce the deficit to one goal.

However, it is PSG, who have already beaten three Premier League teams in a row, while Arsenal lost to the French champions after Liverpool and Aston Villa, who will face Inter Milan in the final on May 31.
