Kim Kardashian Jewel Theft Suspect Says He Will Apologize During Trial

One of the men accused of robbing Kim Kardashian has said he plans to take responsibility for his role in the high-profile 2016 heist and apologize at a trial starting Monday in Paris.

Younis Abbas, 71, who has openly admitted his involvement in the crime, is among 10 suspects facing charges including armed robbery and kidnapping.

“I will apologize,” he told The Associated Press. “I mean it sincerely.”

Kardashian, 44, is expected to testify in the trial, which is expected to last until May 23.

In interviews and on reality TV, she has spoken of the horror she felt when burglars pointed a gun at her to steal millions of dollars in jewelry from the apartment she was staying in during Paris Fashion Week. She has shared her fears of being raped or killed.

Abbas said he was a ground-floor caretaker, ensuring an escape route was clear. He said he was unarmed and made no personal threats to Kardashian, but acknowledged that he shared responsibility for the crime.

He was arrested in January 2017 and spent 21 months in custody before being released under judicial control.

In 2021, he co-authored a French-language book entitled “I Isolate Kim Kardashian”.

In her testimony to investigators, Kardashian described how two men burst into her bedroom and pointed a gun at her, demanding her ring. She said she was bound with zip ties and tape while the intruders searched for jewelry, including her engagement ring worth millions.

In 2020, while appearing on David Letterman's Netflix show, she tearfully recalled thinking, “I'm going to get raped. I was like, 'What's going on? Are we going to die? Just tell them I have kids. I have kids, I have a husband, I have a family.'”

She told investigators the men dragged her into the bathroom before escaping and she managed to free herself.

The concierge, who was held at gunpoint and forced to lead the robbers into her apartment, also suffered psychological impact.

Investigators found Abbas's DNA on the plastic ties that bound the concierge's hands.

Asked about the trauma Kardashian suffered, Abbas said: “It's true, I didn't think about it. I admit it because I didn't abuse her myself… I didn't blame myself
