Revolut hopes to offer mortgages to Irish customers by autumn

Revolut could start offering mortgages in Ireland by autumn.

The online bank initially plans to offer home loans through its app with employee support over the phone, but may consider partnering with brokers in the future.

Revolut is also aiming to make the application process “significantly simpler” and less “burdensome”, according to The Irish Times.

The UK-based fintech company began testing in the Lithuanian market earlier this month, where it has been granted a eurozone banking licence and has already provided several mortgages.

Joe Heneghan, CEO of Revolut Europe, told The Irish Times he hoped the company's mortgage offering would be ready for Irish customers in the final quarter of the year.

Revolut has 3 million customers in the Republic, putting it in competition with three Irish banks that controlled 92 per cent of the €12.6 billion in mortgages last year.

Other companies seeking to reduce banks' control over mortgages include Avant Money, ICS Mortgages, which has become more active in recent years, and new entrants Nuá Money and MoCo.

Revolut, which has employees in 42 countries and more than 50 million customers, saw net profit rise 129 percent last year to £790 million (€922 million).
