Solanke penalty sends Spurs into Europa League semis

Dominic Solanke's 43rd-minute penalty sent Tottenham into the Europa League semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, allowing them to continue their season and take the pressure off Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs returned to their final opportunity to face them at Deutsche Bank Park after a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week but produced one of their best performances under Postecoglou to ensure his job continues.

Solanke's penalty two minutes before half-time sealed the match, awarded after vice-captains Cristian Romero and James Maddison combined.

It was Solanke's first goal in 12 matches and although Tottenham missed a number of chances after the break, they held on to their lead to reach the semi-finals of this competition for the first time in 41 years.

Postecoglou admitted he has “no idea” whether he will remain in his post after Wednesday's clash but can now focus on the two-legged semi-final in May as his side continue their quest for the club's first trophy in 17 years.
