A New York medical examiner has said actress Michelle Trachtenberg died of complications related to diabetes.
The department's official statement said the cause and manner of death of the 39-year-old New York resident were revised after analyzing laboratory data.
Trachtenberg, known for her roles in Gossip Girl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Harriet the Spy, was found unconscious and unresponsive in her luxury Manhattan apartment in February.
At the time, authorities said no foul play was suspected, and the medical examiner's office determined the cause of death remained “undetermined.”
The Trachtenberg family protested the post-mortem examination, but the medical examiner's office granted the request because no evidence of foul play was found.
A representative for the actress did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment on Wednesday.
Celebrities mourning Trachtenberg included Sarah Michelle Gellar, Taylor Momsen and Blake Lively when her death was announced on February 26.
Trachtenberg began her career at the age of eight, playing Nona Mecklenberg on the Nickelodeon series The Adventures of Pete & Pete from 1994 to 1996, and later starred in the film adaptations of Harriet the Spy and Inspector Gadget, alongside Matthew Broderick.
In 2000, Trachtenberg joined the cast of Buffy, where she played Dawn Summers, the younger sister of the title character, who was portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar from 2000 to 2003.
Trachtenberg continued her career with appearances on Six Feet Under, Weeds, and Gossip Girl, where she played the gang's scheming nemesis, Georgina Sparks. She was one of the stars of the original series, returning for two episodes of the 2021 Gossip Girl revival.
Her later credits include the teen sex comedy EuroTrip (2004) and 17 Again (2009) with Zac Efron and Leslie Mann.
