Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has revealed that “progress” has been made in talks over a new contract that would keep him at Anfield.
The 33-year-old Netherlands defender, like teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is out of contract this summer but has indicated his future could be close to being resolved.
Asked by reporters if there had been progress in talks after the 3-2 Premier League defeat to Fulham, Van Dijk said: “Yes, there has been progress.”
When asked what that meant, he added: “Look, these are internal discussions, let's wait and see.
“I love the club, I love the fans and they have supported us again [at Fulham]. We wanted to reward them but I ask them to come back on Sunday and make the stadium as great a place for us as it always has been.”
The league leaders face West Ham at Anfield on Sunday with a 11-point cushion over second-placed Arsenal and the knowledge that a second title in six seasons could be just weeks away.
