The clock and whistle system is only used for televised games in the Irish Cup and Tailtine Cup.

The new clock and sound system will be applied exclusively to All-Ireland and Tailteann Cup football matches that are televised or streamed live on the GAA+ platform.

An audit carried out by the GAA's Games Management Unit in conjunction with one of the firms providing the association's system has shown that some counties are not suitable for its implementation.

“It's really sad,” said Football Oversight Committee chairman Jim Gavin.

“Of course, from the FRC's perspective, we would like to see this everywhere, but the hard truth is that some sites are not ready, as the Games Administrator says. As a result, they have taken a pragmatic approach.”

The FRC expects the system to be used at 25 to 30 stadiums this summer. During the Allianz Football League, it was only used for Division 1 and 2 matches.

Last month, The Irish Examiner reported that the full roll-out of the inter-county public sound system would cost around €250,000.

Last month, the Central Competition Control Committee (CCCC) in Donegal informed Central Council delegates that each county council would face a bill of around €7,000 for the technology.
