Regardless of the IDEAS Research Institute that is currently being established, the IDEAS NCBR company continues to operate within the National Centre for Research and Development, NCBR Director Prof. Jerzy Małachowski said on Tuesday. The NCBR management, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science, is considering several scenarios for the operation of this company.
NCBR Director Prof. Jerzy Małachowski, asked at a press conference on Tuesday what would happen to the still operating company IDEAS NCBR – after the establishment of the IDEAS Research Institute, replied that “today the company operates in accordance with the previously adopted assumptions”. He added, however, that in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the NCBR management is considering several scenarios for the operation of this company.
IDEAS NCBR is to continue to be – as Professor Małachowski put it – “inscribed in the chain of support for Polish startups”. Its tasks will therefore include commercialization and mentoring.
However, NCBR is considering, among other things, combining the company's activities in the commercialization of artificial intelligence research results with the activities of Akces NCBR.
IDEAS NCBR is one of the companies of the National Centre for Research and Development – the others are e.g. NIF NCBR Investment Fund ASI SA and Akces NCBR sp. z o. o.
On Tuesday, the government adopted a regulation on the establishment of the IDEAS Research Institute, which will be jointly managed by the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MC) and the Ministry of National Defense (MON). It was announced that the head of the institute will be Prof. Piotr Sankowski, a specialist in artificial intelligence research.
Prof. Sankowski was the founder and president of IDEAS NCBR sp. z o. o. – a company established in 2021 by the National Center for Research and Development. At the end of September last year, Prof. Sankowski unexpectedly lost the competition for the position of president of IDEAS NCBR. The course of the competition caused controversy in the scientific community. Sankowski left IDEAS NCBR, and several of its members resigned from the company's scientific council. After protests from the community that supported Prof. Sankowski, the government announced that it would establish the IDEAS Institute conducting research on AI. (PAP)
