Katie Taylor is set to rematch Amanda Serrano on July 20th as the co-main event of Jake Paul v Mike Tyson.
Taylor defeated Serrano via split-decision in May 2022, the first women’s boxing bout to headline Madison Square Garden, with this fight taking place at the AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The stadium is home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
Their first fight won Sports Illustrated’s Fight of the Year and The Ring’s Event of the Year for 2022.
The pair were set to rematch in May 2023 in Ireland, but Serrano was forced to pull out due to injury.
This will also be Taylor’s first fight since her majority decision win over Chantelle Cameron at the 3Arena, avenging her only career defeat in the process.
Amanda Serrano’s last fight saw her take home a unanimous decision victory against her mandatory WBO challenger Danila Ramos, making history in the first-ever women’s unified world championship to be fought over 12, three-minute rounds, equal to any men’s championship fight.
It had been hoped Taylor’s next fight could be in Croke Park, but comments from Eddie Hearn had suggested it would be unlikely.
There was also speculation this fight could take place at the Sphere in Las Vegas, but Dana White hinted at the weekend the UFC would be the first combat sports event at the venue.
This bout between Taylor and Serrano will be for Taylor’s Super Lightweight belts, with Serrano moving up from featherweight.
The fight will be streamed live on Netflix.
“This is the rematch the world has wanted to see and I’m delighted that it’s finally happening,” said Katie Taylor. “The first fight in New York was obviously an epic occasion and it more than lived up to the billing, and I’m sure the rematch will be no different.
“I want to thank Matchroom and DAZN for their help in making the fight possible and I’m looking forward to defending my titles as Undisputed World Champion in Dallas on Saturday, July 20th.”
