Athletics

A personal best of 7.90 seconds saw Sarah Lavin win her heat in the 60m Hurdles at the World Indoor Championships on Sunday morning.

The Limerick woman will be back in semi-final action at 7.40pm.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s Women’s 4x400m Relay team have come fourth in their heat, posting a national record of 3 minutes 28.45 seconds.

However, it wasn’t enough for Phil Healy, Sophie Becker, Roisin Harrison, Sharlene Mawdsley to automatically qualify for the semi-final.

Soccer

Manchester City came from behind to defeat rivals Manchester United 3-1 at the Etihad, with two goals from Phi; Foden.

In the earlier games, Bournemouth got a 2-0 away victory over Burnley.

Celtic failed to go top of the Scottish Premiership after they suffered a 2-0 loss away to Hearts.

The results means Rangers remain the leaders, two points clear of the Hoops.

Gaelic Games

Monaghan have been beaten by Galway by 3-12 to 13 points in their Division 1 Allianz National Football League clash this afternoon.

Cathal Sweeney, Rory Cunningham and Cein Darcy with the goals for the Tribesmen.

That result leaves Monaghan at risk of relegation while Galway have taken a step away from danger themselves.

Already today, Kerry got the better of Tyrone by 18 points to 1-11.

Kildare’s winless run in Division 2 continued this evening.

They couldn’t find a way past Cork who came out on top in their clash by 2-15 to 3-9 The Lilywhites trail the Rebels by 2-12 to 3-5 late on in that one.

Elsewhere, Donegal kept up their good early season form with a 1-17 to 15 point win over Louth while Armagh defeated Fermanagh by 15 points to 11 at Brewster Park.

Golf

Shane Lowry and David Skinns both shot a five-under-par 66 to share the lead heading into the final round of the Cognizant Classic.

American Austin Eckroat is alongside them on 13-under-par at the PGA National in Florida – three clear of the chasing pack.

Rory McIlroy, who started the day tied with Lowry and Skinns, dropped six shots off the pace with a 72.
