Here’s all you need to know to become the next Super 6 winner…
South Korea v Germany (Wednesday, 3pm)
Key Stat: Toni Kroos scored the latest German goal recorded at a World Cup against Sweden. The goal clocked in at 94:43 and has put Germany back in control of their own destiny.
Form: Germany lost their opener 1-0 to Mexico, followed by a dramatic 2-1 victory thanks to Kroos’ goal. South Korea have lost both of their games at this World Cup so far, but can still make it through if they win and other results go their way.
Main men: South Korea’s Heung-Min Son has scored their only goal of the tournament, netting from one of his eight shots against Mexico last time out. Kroos proved exactly why he is so highly rated and stepped up when it counted against Sweden.
Most likely scoreline: 0-2 (11/2 with Sky Bet)
Mexico v Sweden (Wednesday, 3pm)
Key Stat: The only meeting between these two nations at the World Cup came in 1958, where Sweden won 3-0.
Form: Mexico sit at the top of Group F after beating Germany and South Korea in their two opening games, meaning they only need a draw to secure qualification. Sweden beat South Korea in their opener but enjoyed just 17 per cent possession against Germany’s 10 men as they let their lead slip.
Main Men: Mexico’s Javier Hernandez found the back of the net in their last outing against South Korea and will be expected to be among the goals once more, whereas Sweden will look to Emil Forsberg’s talent to help unlock a stubborn Mexican defence, which is yet to concede a goal.
Most likely scoreline: 1-1 (5/1 with Sky Bet)
Serbia v Brazil (Wednesday, 7pm)
Key Stat: As an independent nation, Serbia have only faced Brazil once, in June 2014, when they lost 1-0.
Form: After leading in the first half, Serbia were denied a point late on as Xherdan Shaqiri scored an injury-time winner for Switzerland. However, having beaten Costa Rica, Mladen Krstajic’s men could still qualify with a draw if the Swiss lose. Brazil drew with the Swiss before beating Costa Rica, meaning they too will have to go for victory in order to secure top spot, while a draw is enough to ensure they make the final 16.
Main men: Brazil’s Neymar opened his account last time out and will be hoping to build on that with a positive performance here. Serbia’s Aleksandar Mitrovic also scored last time out and his physical presence will be vitally important in upsetting Brazil’s defence.
Most likely scoreline: 0-2 (11/2 with Sky Bet)
Charlie Nicholas’ Super 6 predictions
- South Korea 0-2 Germany
- Mexico 2-1 Sweden
- Serbia 1-3 Brazil
- Switzerland 2-0 Costa Rica
- Panama 0-2 Tunisia
- England 1-1 Belgium
Switzerland v Costa Rica (Wednesday, 7pm)
Key Stat: Switzerland have not lost in their last four games World Cup games against CONCACAF teams, while Costa Rica are without a victory in their last four World Cup games against European opposition, drawing three times and losing once.
Form: Switzerland are in prime position to qualify thanks to drawing with Brazil and then securing a dramatic late win against Serbia. Costa Rica have lost twice and so are already eliminated.
Main Men: Shaqiri will be expected to continue his excellent form for the Swiss while Costa Rica need Bryan Ruiz to up his game to retrieve a consolation win.
Most likely scoreline: 1-0 (9/2 with Sky Bet)
Panama v Tunisia (Thursday, 7pm)
Key Stat: Tunisia have not won in their last 13 World Cup games and Panama are yet to gain a World Cup point.
Form: Tunisia and Panama are both out after losing their opening two fixtures. Panama have scored one goal, whereas Tunisia have managed three.
Main men: Captain Wahbi Khazri scored last time out against Belgium and the captain has been involved in more World Cup goals than any previous Tunisian player. Panama’s most influential figure is their captain Roman Torres, the Seattle Sounders centre-back, who was their joint-top goalscorer in qualification.
Most likely scoreline: 1-2 (13/2 with Sky Bet)
England v Belgium (Thursday, 7pm)
Key Stat: The last time Belgium beat England was in 1936, their only victory in 21 attempts. The Three Lions have won 15 of those encounters.
Form: These two nations go into the final Group G game on the exact same stats, meaning that a draw would send the final placement of the teams down to FIFA Fair Play. Both teams have won their opening two fixtures against Tunisia and Panama.
Main Men: Harry Kane has scored five goals already at this World Cup, following his hat-trick against Panama. The Tottenham striker has scored with every shot on target he has taken, while Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku boasts the same economy, scoring one fewer.
Most likely scoreline: 1-1 (5/1 with Sky Bet)
