Manchester United transfer news and rumours: Summer transfer window 2022

Wrapping up the Man Utd transfer news, rumours and gossip in the 2022 summer window.

Man Utd preparing move for PSV winger Gakpo

Manchester United are preparing a move for £35m-rated PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.

United boss Erik ten Hag, who shares the same agency as Gakpo, is keen on signing the 23-year-old to boost his attack.

Gakpo, currently managed by former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, has emerged as a more long-term solution to the lack of quality options in the forward department.

The Netherlands international is a product of PSV’s academy and scored 21 goals in 47 games last season.

PSV’s stance has been if a club with strong financial resources come in, it is implausible to retain their star players.

Talks continue with Rabiot’s mother over personal terms as United remain in discussions with Juventus over the final details of the deal, which is thought to be worth £15m plus add-ons.

Sky Sports News has been told Erik ten Hag is very keen on the player and that there is “full alignment” between the manager and the recruitment department over the signing.

United have not given up on signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong but are growing increasingly frustrated with the hold up at the Barcelona end. They continue to look at other targets.

Man Utd end chase for Arnautovic | United offered Morata

Manchester United will not be pursuing a deal for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic.

United had a bid of £7.6m rejected and were expected to go back in with an improved offer, but have decided to move on to other targets.

The asking price for the 33-year-old is believed to be more than what United were prepared to pay.

Following United’s decision to pull out of a deal for Arnautovic, they have been offered a number of strikers including Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

Aarons a possible solution at right-back

Norwich City‘s Max Aarons could become a possible solution as Manchester United look into options at right-back.

He has been a historical target for them – and has been assessed by two other top six clubs previously – but it remains to be seen how their interest develops.

Man Utd target Sesko joins RB Leipzig

Another transfer window blow for Manchester United as striker target Benjamin Sesko has joined RB Leipzig in a £20m deal.

The 19-year-old Slovenia striker was in great form for RB Salzburg last season and has signed a contract until 2028.

Sesko will be loaned back to Salzburg for the forthcoming season before joining the Bundesliga club in 2023.

Nev: Ronaldo needs to front up | Carra: Man Utd better off without him

Gary Neville has called on Cristiano Ronaldo to speak publicly about his future at Manchester United, believing the “messy” situation has caused an unwanted distraction for new manager Erik ten Hag heading into the new season.

Ronaldo reportedly wants to leave United in order to play for a club competing in next season’s Champions League, but Neville maintains the Portuguese should clarify his position to supporters at a time when the club are seeking some much-needed stability.

Roy Keane, Micah Richards, Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp debate whether Cristiano Ronaldo should stay at Manchester United or leave Old Trafford for a new club.

Speaking on Friday Night Football, Neville said: “The Ronaldo situation is distracting. You saw Ten Hag in the press conference on Friday having to answer questions about it.

“The fact Anthony Martial has got injured and he is the only other centre forward, and he actually was going to leave the club six months ago.

“I’m a little bit disappointed in him because he’s letting the manager go into those press conferences. Cristiano Ronaldo is now a good age. He’s been the greatest player in the world along with Lionel Messi for the last 10 years. He’s got all the experience in the world.

“Would it be too much to ask for him to come out and do an interview to clear things up, tell us what he’s actually thinking and what actually is happening?

Dharmesh Sheth and Kaveh Solhekol give the latest update on the potential transfer of Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future at the club.

Crystal Palace are interested in re-signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka on loan from Manchester United.

The 24-year-old right-back signed for United from the Eagles in 2019 for £50m, but has struggled for consistency at Old Trafford.

United are thought to be “open minded” about Wan-Bissaka’s short-term future although they would be happy if he was still their player come the end of the window, but are also mindful of what would be best for the defender.

Manchester United still feel there is a deal to be done for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

United are keeping alternatives “warm” but will not be pulling the plug on a deal for the midfielder just yet.
