The Russians have begun installing a MESH modem on their Molniya strike drones. It's the same as the Shahed, Gerbera, and Cube drones, but smaller.

Main theses:

  • The installation of MES modems on Molniya attack drones by the Russian occupiers poses a threat to the security of military operations.
  • This modernization allows the Russians to consolidate drone control into a single network, which could have strategic implications.

Russians have improved the Molniya attack drone

This was stated by Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov.

A military colleague sent me a photo of the configuration of the new Molniya. Unfortunately, this is what I was “afraid of”. The Russians installed a MESH modem on the Molniya, the same as on the Shaheds, Gerbers and Kubas, but smaller. The power is two channels of 5 watts each. The range is now 1300-1500 MHz.

He noted that the Russians are thus connecting the entire segment of control of drones of various types into a single network. He added that this is leading to “unification of receiving and transmitting equipment.”

What will they do next? Link the NRC management into this single network. Well, nothing, we have something to say to the Russians on this matter. The main thing is to see their plans in time and in advance.

A mesh modem is a modern network of several modules (nodes) that work as a single unit to eliminate communication “dead zones”.

Their use in drones allows for the formation of a dynamic network with chain relay, where each modem plays the role of a repeater for the others.
