An infrared searchlight was spotted on a Russian Shahed attack UAV.
Main theses:
- The Russian occupiers improved the protection of the shaheeds by installing infrared spotlights.
- Infrared searchlights help monitor Ukrainian interceptors and anti-aircraft drones.
- The Russian army continues to improve strike UAVs to effectively combat Ukrainian drones and aircraft.
The occupiers equip the shaheeds with infrared searchlights
The Russians can use such devices to counter Ukrainian interceptors, said radio technology specialist Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov.
This is the first time I've seen this on Shahed. It's an IR (Infrared) searchlight to blind anti-aircraft drones and aircraft. The enemy continues to work on countermeasures.

In the comments to the post on his Facebook page, the specialist spoke about another possible version of the device's purpose: the occupiers could use it as a “beacon” drone that leads other drones with cameras behind it.
An infrared (IR) illuminator is a separate device that emits infrared light. It is invisible to the human eye and allows you to obtain a clear black and white image in complete darkness.
The Russian army continues to improve its strike UAVs and install additional modules to counter Ukrainian interceptor drones and aircraft. Previously, radio modems were added to the “Shahedas” and “Gerberas”, which allow them to form a network between the drones and control them in real time from the Russian Federation.
Also in November, rear-view cameras were more frequently spotted on Russian drones to counter Ukrainian anti-aircraft UAVs. The same cameras were also found on Orlan reconnaissance UAVs.
