The Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center will receive over PLN 200 million in support from the European Commission for the AI factory, wrote Finance Minister Andrzej Domański on Platform X. In turn, the Ministry of Digital Affairs announced the continuation of investments in breakthrough technologies.
“The Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center will receive over PLN 200 million in support from the European Commission for the AI Factory. We have also provided PLN 200 million in the Polish budget. This is an important step in building our technological strength. We are investing in the future,” the Minister of Finance wrote on platform x.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs stated in a statement that the decision of the European Commission is a key step in the implementation of the EU strategy to build a network of specialized AI centers. It was announced in September 2024 and assumes the creation of a network of specialized research and development centers integrating EuroHPC supercomputers, data resources and scientific and industrial competences.
The project, carried out by the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PCSS), will receive PLN 200 million (EUR 50 million) from the European Commission. These funds will increase the pool of PLN 340 million provided by the Polish government for the development of AI Factories.
In December 2024, Poland (ACK Cyfronet) took part in the first stage of the competition, joining a consortium with the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia and Norway to co-create the AI Factory being built at the Finnish supercomputer LUMI.
In the second stage of the competition in February 2025, the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PCSS) received funding. The Academic Computer Center Cyfronet AGH from Krakow, using the experience of Poznań and the support of specialists from the IDEAS Institute, will enter the competition in early May 2025 to apply for further funds for the development of AI infrastructure in Poland.
“Support for AI Factories is a key step in building Poland's technological sovereignty. In the coming months, we will continue investing in breakthrough technologies such as AI and quantum technologies,” it was written. (PAP Biznes)
