Meta plans to introduce new Ray-Ban smartglasses models next week, specifically designed for users with vision correction needs.

Main theses:

  • Meta will introduce new models of Ray-Ban smart glasses for users who need vision correction.
  • New versions of smart glasses are specifically designed for users with visual impairments, not just with the ability to add prescription lenses.

The company is preparing two versions – with a rectangular and a round frame shape. Unlike current Ray-Ban models, which can be supplemented with prescription lenses, the new versions are specifically designed for the visually impaired category.

The new versions of the glasses are expected to be sold through traditional optical channels. The new variants are not the next generation of devices, but rather an extension of the existing line.

The FCC certification documents show two models named “Scriber” and “Blazer,” which are marked as production models, indicating that their release is imminent.

According to this information, published by The Verge, the “Blazer” will be available in a larger size and will also receive support for the Wi-Fi 6 UNII-4 band, which is missing from previous versions. This could provide faster data transfers, especially for live streaming.

During Meta's latest financial report, Mark Zuckerberg said that billions of people wear glasses or contact lenses, and it's hard to imagine a future where most of these devices don't have AI features, a statement that could hint at the company's strategic direction.

At the same time, there is no information about the presence of a display in the new models, which is consistent with Meta's previous approaches to this product.
