TCS, an Indian company providing IT services, consulting, and business solutions, announced that it plans to lay off approximately 12,000 employees. The announcement cited significantly fewer orders than planned from new customers, the general economic slowdown in China, and existing customers seeking savings by trying to perform some of the work they previously outsourced in-house.

According to K Krithivasan, CEO and Managing Director of TCS, quoted in the press release, the layoffs will primarily affect middle and senior management positions. He also announced that the job cuts will take place by the end of this year.

Among the best technology brands

The company employs approximately 613,000 people in its branches worldwide. It provides accounting, IT, cloud computing, and data center storage services to all global Tata Group companies. Its services are also used by Indian companies doing business abroad.

TCS was ranked among the top 20 global technology brands in Brand Finance's Technology 100 2025 report, moving up from 25th to 20th place from a year earlier. Earlier this year, Brand Finance ranked it the second most valuable IT services brand in the world, with a valuation of $21.3 billion.

Layoffs across the industry

The Indian company isn't the only major IT player to announce major layoffs this year . Others include the American company Autodesk, which will lose 1,350 jobs, and Intel, which announced a 20 percent reduction in its workforce in April. In early July, Microsoft announced it plans to lay off around 9,000 employees.

Polish companies in this sector are also reducing their workforces. One such company is the Atos Group, where nearly 60 people are officially expected to lose their jobs, but according to the company's staff, this number could rise to as many as 200.
