Wales began their World Cup qualifying campaign with a comfortable 3-1 win over Kazakhstan.
Daniel James opened the scoring for Wales early in the match in front of a near-sold 32,473 at Cardiff City Stadium, but his lead was temporarily cancelled out by a penalty awarded for Connor Roberts' hand, which was converted by Askhat Tagybergen.
Kazakhstan also created chances to change the game but captain Ben Davies and Rabbi Matondo, who scored his first goal for Wales in the dying minutes, gave Craig Bellamy's side a strong start.
Only then could Wales fans breathe a sigh of relief, but Bellamy will be pleased with a successful start with three points against tougher opponents North Macedonia on Tuesday.
In his first ever match against the team, Bellamy made four changes from their previous outing in November, when Wales beat Iceland 4-1 to extend their unbeaten start to a record six matches.
Karl Darlow replaced Danny Ward in goal, with Roberts, Sorba Thomas and David Brooks also returning to the starting line-up as Wales topped their Nations League group.
Kazakhstan, ranked 110th in FIFA, are a whopping 81 places behind Wales but have a strong record against British sides, beating Scotland in 2019 and Northern Ireland twice in Euro 2024 qualifying.
Wales started the match with confusion, committing several inaccurate passes and awkward touches, but took the lead in the ninth minute.
After a series of corners, when the ball ended up in James's hands as a result of rapid pressure from Liam Cullen and Davis, his shot bounced off Alexander Marochkin and flew into the visitors' goal, slightly hitting Alexander Zarutsky.
It was James' eighth goal for his country and the Leeds winger became the main source of threat for the Welsh attack as the game progressed.
James went down after a foul by Nurali Alip as cries for a penalty went unheeded, but Lithuanian referee Donatas Rumsas soon pointed to the penalty spot.
