Travis Kelce to return to Kansas City Chiefs after deciding not to retire

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has confirmed his intention to continue his career in the NFL.

The 35-year-old, who is in a relationship with pop singer Taylor Swift, has one year left on his contract and admitted he considered retirement after the Chiefs' tough loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl last month.

However, on his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother and former Eagles center Jason Kelce, the three-time Super Bowl champion confirmed that he quickly made the decision to continue his career.

When asked by his brother why he returned for another season, Travis Kelce replied, “I love playing (football) and I still feel like I can perform at a high level, maybe even better than last year. I don't think it was my best season; I let my teammates down in a lot of ways instead of helping them.”

“I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth about how I finished last year, how well I played and how much I owed to the people around me. I genuinely love a lot of people in Kansas City, both in the organization and in the community; this is my home now. I don't want to leave this life yet.”

“Last year didn't end in the best way for us. I feel like I have an obligation to honor the contract I originally signed to give Kansas City and the Chiefs organization everything I have, and that's what I'm going to do.”

Kelce has spent his entire career with the Chiefs, being selected in the third round of the 2013 draft.

The tight end has reached the Super Bowl five times and holds the NFL record for most postseason receptions by any player in history with 178.

In one of the least productive seasons of his career, Kelce had 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.

He had four receptions for 39 yards in a 40-22 loss to the Eagles that kept the Chiefs from winning their third straight Super Bowl.
