Tottenham close to agreement with Brentford over Thomas Frank appointment

Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement with Brentford over compensation for the appointment of Thomas Frank as their new manager, but talks are now in their third day, according to PA news agency.

Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou on Friday – just 16 days after he led them to Europa League success – and immediately turned their attention to Frank.

Following positive preliminary discussions over the weekend, confidence grew on Monday that Frank would be the man to replace Postecoglou, with Tottenham formally approaching their Premier League rivals with an offer later that day.

Talks continued on Tuesday and focused on Frank's contract with Brentford, which runs until the summer of 2027 and includes a release clause reported to be around £10m.

Talks are expected to begin on Wednesday but PA understands an agreement between Spurs and Brentford on a compensation package for Frank's appointment is already close.

Work also needs to continue on Frank's coaching staff and how many players will follow the Danish manager to Tottenham.

The 51-year-old will take charge of Tottenham Hotspur, who won the Europa League last month but finished 17th in the Premier League.

One of the first decisions he will have to make if appointed concerns the future of Tottenham captain Son Heung-min.

Son had a 12-month option on his current contract, which came into effect in January.

“I have one more year left on my contract,” Son said on Tuesday, according to Korea's Yonhap news agency.

“Instead of saying anything now, I think we should all wait and see what happens.”
