Saturday sport: Wins for three provinces; Allianz Football League underway

Here’s the latest from today’s sport action…


Fulham will need a replay to get past Championship opponents Sunderland after being held to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage in the FA Cup fourth round.

Fellow Premier League side Leicester edged out Walsall 1-0, while Southampton squeezed past Blackpool 2-1 and Leeds were 3-1 winners at Accrington.

In the later games, Tottenham got a 3-0 win against Preston, while Manchester United won 3-1 against Reading.


The Allianz National Football League has returned, with Fermanagh getting off to winning ways with a 0-15 to 0-9 victory over Longford in Division Three.

Earlier, Derry opened their League campaign with a 0-16 to 0-04 win over Limerick at Owenbeg in Division Two. In the second game of that division, Down beat Tipperary 2-11 to 1-11.


In Division One, Armagh got a win over Monaghan, ending 1-14 to 1-12, while it was a draw between Mayo and Galway in Castlebar where it ended 1-11 to 2-8.

Finally, Wicklow lead Carlow 2-9 to 2-7 and Wexford are a goal up against London in Division Four.

In Division One of the Lidl Ladies National Football League, Meath took a 1-7 to 0-5 win over Donegal, while three goals for Kerry narrowly saw them past Mayo, ending 3-5 to 0-13.


Leinster have beaten Cardiff 38-14 in their URC clash at the RDS.

Man of the Match Max Deegan, Brian Deeny, Max O’Reilly and Liam Turner all crossed the whitewash, in addition to a brace from Luke McGrath.

Earlier, Munster came from behind to beat Benetton 40-30 in Treviso.

John Hodnett put in a man-of-the-match performance, claiming a try for the Reds alongside Joey Carbery, Jack O’Sullivan, Paddy Patterson, Antoine Frisch and Jean Kleyn.

The bonus-point win sees Graham Rowntree’s charges leap above the Italian side in the URC table.

In the last game of the day, Connacht also got a win, beating the Lions 43-24.
