Saturday sport: Connacht suffer late defeat against Edinburgh

Arsenal have moved level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League after beating Burnley 3-1.

They also climbed above north London rivals Tottenham, who were stunned by two stoppage time goals in a 2-1 defeat at Wolves.

Manchester United secured a narrow 1-0 win over Luton, while Everton edged a five-goal thriller with Crystal Palace 3-2.

Newcastle could have ended the day in fifth but lost 2-0 at Bournemouth.


Provincial club championships have reached their quarter-final stages across the four provinces this weekend.

On Saturday, the Ulster Senior Football Championship sees Trillick of Tyrone meet Armagh’s Crossmaglen Rangers at Healy Park at 7.15pm.

Meanwhile, in the Connacht Senior Football Championship, Mayo’s Ballina Stephenites welcome London’s Fulham Irish to MacHale Park for a 6pm throw-in.


A drop goal from Ben Healy with the clock in the red has handed Connacht their first loss of the URC season.

Cian Prendergast thought he had rescued a draw with a last gasp try to make it Edinburgh 22 Connacht 22 with two minutes remaining.

However, the former Munster man slotted over in front of the posts to give the Scottish side their third win of the campaign.

The Lions struck late to get a 24-23 win over the Scarlets while the Glasgow Warriors came away from the Ospreys with a 31-23 victory.

Earlier today, Benetton got the better of the Stormers by 20 points to 17.
