Ruben Amorim has assured Manchester United fans that “everything can change” in the Premier League after rivals Liverpool equalled his club's record of 20 top-flight titles.
While Arne Sloth's leaders were on the brink of the title with a win over Tottenham at Anfield, 14th-placed United needed a stoppage-time goal from Rasmus Hjjlund to level and snatch a ten-man 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.
United looked set to suffer a 16th defeat of their worst Premier League campaign when Cherries striker Antoine Semenyo was given a chance to open the scoring in the 23rd minute.
However, Evanilson's controversial red card in the 70th minute for a foul on Noussair Mazraoui changed the course of the game before Hjøjlund struck in the sixth of nine minutes of added time.
United fans sang songs about their 20 titles in the south coast sunshine before manager Amorim stressed that increasing that tally, which was last increased in 2013, remained his long-term target.
“The first thing we need to do is focus on ourselves and not on other teams,” Amorim said.
“The next step is to be completely honest. We (United and Liverpool) are at different stages at the moment. But things can change.
“I remember when I started (watching) the Premier League it was the other way around, so things could change.
“We need to focus on moving forward gradually, without trying to look too far ahead.
“We have an end goal – to win the Premier League. I'm not crazy, I understand that it won't happen next year.
