On Sunday, President Donald Trump expressed his disapproval of Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett due to their joining the majority in the court’s determination concerning his tariff strategy, a verdict stating that the president lacked the authority to employ the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to enforce extensive tariffs.

“They were chosen by me, and yet have injured our Nation so greatly!” Trump penned on his social media platform on Sunday evening. “I do not think they intended to do so, but their judgment on Tariffs has cost the United States 159 Billion Dollars, which we must repay to foes, individuals, corporations, and Countries that have exploited us for many years. It’s scarcely believable!”

He continued, “They could have rectified that issue with a ‘small’ statement, ‘Any funds remitted by others to the United States need not be returned.’ Why didn’t they do that?”

In a 6-3 decision, authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, the Supreme Court in February nullified the majority of Trump’s extensive worldwide tariffs, a key element of his economic blueprint during his second term.

“We assert no specific expertise in matters of economics or foreign policy. We assert solely, as we must, the restricted function assigned to us by Article III of the Constitution,” Roberts articulated in the opinion. “In fulfilling that function, we maintain that IEEPA does not empower the President to impose tariffs.”

Justices Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, and Samuel Alito dissented from the majority, contending that Trump should possess the authority to enforce tariffs amid national emergencies.

In March, Trump utilized social media to denounce the U.S. judicial framework, declaring at the time that Gorsuch and Barrett, both of whom the president designated during his initial term, were attempting to go “out of their way, with detrimental and improper rulings and intentions, to demonstrate how ‘honest,’ ‘independent,’ and ‘legitimate’ they are.”

Gorsuch and Barrett have proven to be dependable conservative votes on the court, regularly voting in support of stances advocated by the Trump administration. Last year, Barrett authored the significant 6-3 judgment curtailing the capacity of lower court judges to issue nationwide injunctions against Trump policies.

Last week, Gorsuch publicly addressed Trump’s prior personal assaults, informing ABC News Live Prime anchor Linsey Davis that he is committed to remaining “independent” and “fearless” in executing his responsibility despite intense criticism from the president who appointed him.

Trump also seemed to suggest on Sunday that Republican-appointed justices should never rule against a Republican president, despite the reality that justices have previously ruled against the president who designated them.

“With certain Republican Nominated Justices that we have on the Supreme Court, the Democrats don’t really need to ‘PACK THE COURT’ any longer,” he commented. “Indeed, I should be the one wanting to PACK THE COURT! I’m toiling so diligently to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and then individuals I appointed have displayed so little regard for our Nation and its populace. What is the explanation for this? They must act justly, but it’s truly acceptable for them to be devoted to the individual who appointed them to ‘almost’ the highest echelon in the land, that is, a Justice of the United States Supreme Court.”

Trump also conveyed on Sunday his belief that the Supreme Court would thwart his endeavor to restrict access to birthright citizenship. The court deliberated on a case on April 1 concerning Trump’s executive order.

“I don’t desire allegiance, but I do desire and anticipate it for our Country,” Trump stated.

“Well, perhaps Neil and Amy just experienced a particularly challenging day, but our Nation can only endure so many determinations of that magnitude before it disintegrates and fractures!!!” he appended. “Occasionally, judgments must be permitted to employ Sound, Potent, Common Sense as a guide. A detrimental ruling on Birthright Citizenship, in conjunction with the recent Supreme Court Tariff calamity, is not Economically viable for the United States of America?”
