Russian forces launched drone and other strikes in Ukraine on Thursday, killing three people and wounding dozens, officials said, despite international calls for a ceasefire.
The Ukrainian Air Force reports that Russia launched a massive attack of 63 drones and decoys towards Ukraine overnight. Air defense systems are said to have destroyed 28 drones and suppressed another 21.
Ukrainian police said two people had been killed and six wounded in the past 24 hours in the eastern part of Donetsk region where Russia is advancing.
According to law enforcement agencies, in the southern Kherson region, partially controlled by Russian troops, one person was killed and 14 were injured.
The head of the Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegubov, reported that as a result of attacks by Russian drones, 15 people, including four children, were injured overnight.
Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that Russian drones fired at residential areas, educational institutions, kindergartens and other civilian infrastructure facilities.
“Kharkiv will survive. People are alive. And that is the most important thing,” Mr. Terekhov noted.
The Russian military has stepped up drone and missile attacks in recent days, with a record-breaking barrage of nearly 500 drones on Monday and an attack of 315 drones and seven missiles on Tuesday night.
The recent escalation of air strikes coincided with a renewed Russian offensive along the eastern and northeastern portion of the 600-mile front line.
While Russian missiles and drones target regions across Ukraine, areas along the front lines are under daily attack using short-range, explosive drones and glide bombs.
Ukraine responds with drone strikes: Russia's Defense Ministry said air defense systems shot down 52 Ukrainian drones on Thursday morning, including 41 over the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine.
