Police hunt convicted killer who disappeared from Scottish prison

Police in Scotland are searching for a convicted murderer who disappeared from an open prison.

Raymond McCourt, 59, was reported missing from Huntly Castle at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Police urged citizens not to approach him.

He is described as a man of 6ft 2in tall, of heavy build, with short greying hair and beard, and limited mobility.

According to Scottish police, he uses public transport, which runs to the Glasgow and Edinburgh areas.

He was last seen wearing a long black coat, grey trousers, grey waistcoat, blue shirt with red and white tie and brown shoes.

In 1993, McCourt received a life sentence for the murder of store owner Khalid Mahmood, as well as for shooting a woman and a police officer.

He was released in 2015 but returned to prison after being convicted of theft.
