I read these endless forum battles and wonder. Another cry: in Europe there are magnolias, sakura and lawns without shit, and in Kyiv there are bullfinches, grayness, peeling porches and in general I want to go out the window. The author is sick every day. Literally, informs Ukr.Media.
Let's take off our rose-colored glasses. Europe ends where the non-touristy route begins.
A postcard from Nuremberg is wonderful. But there are also rats the size of a fat cat near the Colosseum or in the Paris metro. There are syringes at the train station in Frankfurt. There are mountains of garbage in Naples and the persistent smell of urine in the underpasses of Munich or Leipzig. There are homeless people who spread out their sleeping bags right on the central streets of the richest capitals.
A tourist window and real life are two different things. It's easy to admire flowers when you've been brought to the Bundestag or when the state pays your social security. But when you go to work every morning through a dirty train station, the pathos disappears somewhere.
Kyiv is not sterile. We have enough depressing Khrushchevs, strange people on the streets, and broken asphalt. But Kyiv is alive and dynamic. If you focus solely on dog poop and spit, you will find them anywhere. Whether on Darnytsia or in Düsseldorf.
The dirt is always in the eye of the beholder.
When a person is constantly being turned away from their own city, the problem is rarely in architecture. The borders are open for women. A bus ticket to Germany costs a penny. I packed my suitcase and headed for the perfect lawns. But no. It's more convenient to whine online.
Because you can't run away from yourself. You can't fill the inner emptiness even with the most beautiful European sakura.
