Well, why do you need these flowers? — says the man on March 8 2

Not for a birthday, not for March 8, not just because today is Wednesday and the sun is shining, Ukr.Media reports.

His argument is concrete: a good bouquet is expensive, a bad one is an insult to dignity, and in general they will wither in a week, so why waste money? And the final argument, which usually ends any discussion: “Can't you see that I love you? Why do we need these bourgeois relics?”

Ira agreed for years. Of course, kitty, you're right. Instead of feeding florists, let's buy something useful. For the children there, or for the house. She didn't show any signs and supported her husband, but every year at the beginning of March she just wanted to howl for a month.

Because the Instagram feed is turning into an endless greenhouse. Girlfriends with roses, acquaintances with tulips, the streets are filled with men carrying bouquets and gifts to their loved ones.

Ira was sitting on her perpetual maternity leave. She didn't even have a chance to get those regular, slightly wilted tulips from her colleagues, because she hadn't been to the office for years. And you know what the funniest thing about this situation is? Her rational husband at work obediently gave money for bouquets for the accounting department and HR people. Because that's how it should be, corporate ethics, everyone gives – and I give. And at home – it's not necessary.

And then, on the eve of another March 8, Ira just broke down. She was walking with her little one somewhere near the botanical garden, went in and bought herself a huge armful of tulips. She says that at first she felt sorry for the money — it's impractical, money wasted. But when these bright spots appeared in a vase in her kitchen, which was covered in baby puree, she felt surprisingly good. It was even easier to breathe.

She then understood a very banal thing: to have flowers, you don't have to wait for grace from nature or from a man who is simply incapable of it. She has it herself. And you can go and buy what you want at any moment. For yourself. Just like that.

However, Ira made one mistake. She didn't admit that she bought them herself. She told her husband that some stranger on the street gave them to her. So what, things like that happen.

Here I would really like to tell you a fairy tale. You know, like in the movies: a man came to his senses, felt the fierce competition, realized what kind of woman he was losing, ran in the morning for a hundred red roses and arranged a romantic dinner.

But we don't live in a movie.

In reality, this pragmatic, self-confident man was offended. He pursed his lips. He walked around in silence the whole holiday day, and then demonstratively gathered himself and went to congratulate his mother. Alone. As a sign of protest against some imaginary impudent person who dared to give his wife flowers. What exactly he was offended by – his own greed or someone else's generosity – remained a mystery. And he didn't care. The tulips stood there and cheered.

I can't stand all these sweet toasts about “the decoration of the collective” and “the fairer sex.” But if this day exists and dazzles us, let it be an occasion to remember one thing. We shouldn't sit around waiting for a holiday from someone.

Don't you feel like you're surrounded by romance? Leave it. Buy yourself flowers, expensive sparkling wine, new perfume, or a ticket to somewhere where no one will touch you. You are on your own, and they are the only person who knows exactly what you want right now. Allow yourself to be happy, spend your earnings on your own whims, and make yourself a holiday. It's worth it, and not just in March.

So, girls: do we wait for mercy from the “rational cat” or do we take matters into our own hands (and our wallets)?

Because that way you can't wait until retirement. And the years fly by. Little human pleasures should be regular. Whatever it is, if it makes mom happier, for God's sake, let it be. You won't save all the money, but you won't get back time! 👍 1 💯 1 + Reply
