The Supreme Court on Monday nullified the contempt-of-Congress indictments against former Trump aide Steve Bannon, who had declined to comply with a legal summons from the panel probing the January 6, 2021, incident, and later completed a four-month sentence.
The Court did not elaborate on its rationale. There were no registered objections.
In a succinct directive, the Court pointed out that the Trump Justice Department has taken action to drop the accusation against Bannon and sent the case back to a lower court for a closing decision.

Bannon, who functioned as President Donald Trump's primary White House strategist during Trump's initial term, carried out a four-month jail term after being judged culpable on contempt allegations subsequent to a July 2022 court proceeding.
A jury deemed Bannon culpable on a pair of counts of contempt of Congress for disregarding a summons to provide testimony concerning Jan. 6 before the House special committee that scrutinized the attack. Apart from his prison stint, Bannon also paid a $6,500 penalty.
