This attack by the Lancet, which showed signs of using autonomous artificial intelligence, was intended to demonstrate new capabilities of terrorist attacks by racists.
Main theses:
- The Russian drone “Lancet” crashed in the center of Kyiv, showing new possibilities for terrorist attacks.
- There is a suspicion that this drone was configured for autonomy and swarm use.
- The wreckage of the Lancet may indicate the use of artificial intelligence in this drone.
Russia launched the latest drone “Lancet” with AI over Kyiv
The Russian Federation has for the first time used a new type of attack drones, which pose a significant threat, to strike Kyiv.
According to preliminary information received by Defense Express from its own sources, the drone that crashed today near the Independence Monument is a Lancet.
Whether this particular object was the target of this strike, or whether the drone was aimed at something else, is currently being clarified. And the fact that it was destroyed in the center of Kyiv is not a secret.

The wreckage of the Lancet in Kyiv
The fact that this is the “Lancet” is indicated by the wreckage of this drone. In particular, the rather characteristic X-shaped tail of the “Lancet” with a pusher propeller. There is also a photo of the wing, on which there is a number with the RF index.

Analysis of the wreckage is currently underway. But preliminary, even based on this very limited information, it is already possible to draw several conclusions.
This Lancet kamikaze drone most likely used artificial intelligence. It was configured for swarming, autonomous navigation, target acquisition, and unmanned strike. This is indicated by the very unusual markings in the form of colored circles.
This marking is found on Russian autonomous V2U drones. It is believed that it is necessary for the drones to stick to each other, moving in a “flock”. And this morning's drone attack on Kyiv was just a group attack. It is also possible that this drone used communication using mesh modems or mobile communications.
As for the flight range of the Lancet, it is usually listed as 50 km, but this parameter is the communication range. But the Russian Federation has already boasted that they regularly fly at a range of 90 km, and the record is 136 km.

At the same time, the center of Kyiv is over 200 km from the Russian border. Whether the Lancet can even cover such a distance is currently an open question and not an excluded option. But to Kyiv from the territory of Belarus is 90 km.
It is also worth adding that in general, the very fact of an attempt to strike the center of Kyiv with a “Lancet” drone, which carries a warhead weighing up to 3 kg, is seen only as a demonstration of the new capabilities of the Russian Federation for terrorist strikes. On the other hand, it removes any reservations about the autonomy of Ukrainian long-range drones.
At the same time, Fedorov's advisor, Sergey “Flash” Beskrestnov, believes that the Lancet fragments were intentionally dropped from the Shahed as part of enemy anti-aircraft fire.
No Lancets can reach Kyiv. These are strike UAVs with a small ammunition supply for hitting front-line targets. These UAVs physically do not have such a battery life and radio control capabilities.
