Russian Federation’s leader Vladimir Putin understands his inability to overcome Ukraine militarily, so he’s aiming to offset battlefield shortcomings by exerting control over information and diplomatic endeavors, expressed Fiona Hill, a former Russia advisor to Donald Trump, in an exchange with Le Monde.
As per her insights, both countries are drained by the ongoing conflict, yet Russia’s circumstances are equally challenging as Ukraine’s:
“Vladimir Putin is steadfast in his resolve to achieve victory regardless. If not through military might, then by alternative avenues. This alternative involves securing triumphs in the realm of information, persuading the American president along with his representative, Steve Witkoff, and ultimately realizing his objectives.”
According to the specialist, Washington, swayed by Russia, exploited the opportune moment of political instability in Kyiv to heighten diplomatic strain, pressing surrender terms upon Ukraine under the pretense of a “peace accord.”
Gill points out: the Russian approach revolves around projecting an image of Ukraine’s impending collapse and instigating widespread fear among its allies, despite Russia confronting similar resource constraints and exhaustion that impede a comprehensive advancement.
She cautions that the reach of Kremlin-orchestrated information warfare could now pose a greater threat compared to its military capabilities.
US President Donald Trump persists in asserting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy possesses “no leverage.” The Chief Executive is assured that Zelenskyy is posturing to secure a more favorable settlement, while autocrat Vladimir Putin “holds all the trumps.”
Fiona Hill characterized the current US leader’s stance in discussions regarding Ukraine as essentially leaning towards Russia, deeming the White House’s “peace proposal” an act of betrayal against Ukraine.
