On Saturday, November 22, Ukraine successfully repatriated 31 nationals who had been held in Belarus and given sentences ranging from 2 to 11 years, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
The youngest individual freed is 18 years of age, while the oldest is 58. It is noted that among the Ukrainian citizens who came back, some have serious health conditions, including cancer patients. The Ukrainian civilians who have been released will receive all necessary aid. The Coordination Headquarters extended gratitude to the US President “for the productive efforts to bring back Ukrainian civilians and military personnel from Belarus and Russia.”
Today, the Belarusian news source Belta announced that Alexander Lukashenko, who proclaims himself President of Belarus, had pardoned 31 Ukrainians.
“To advance the understandings reached between the presidents of Belarus and the United States, Lukashenko, acting on a request from the Ukrainian side, granted clemency to 31 Ukrainian citizens,” the report stated.
Last week, Rustem Umerov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, declared the resumption of efforts to free Ukrainians held captive by Russia. As he stated, approximately 1,200 nationals are expected to be released.
